They date back to the very first settlers to America in the 1600s many of whom departed from England on the Mayflower and the Little James ships.

In 1905 he was age 13 living in Winnebago, Iowa. On February 28, 1914 he married Matilda Katherine (Kate) Hutchinson in McKenzie County, N. Dakota.
