Isabella Spence (nee Todd) was born April 14, 1850/52 in Connollys Lake, New Caledonia, near Quesnel, BC. On her July 4, 1885 Scrip application, she wrote she was daughter of William Todd, Half-Breed (the oldest son of Dr. William Todd, Irish.) She wrote down mother 'Unknown, Indian' but had crossed out the name Elizabeth Dennett who was actually her grandmother and the 2nd wife of Dr. Todd. Records show Isabella’s mother was Sarah Jane Johnstone, born 1820-30's, married August 16, 1849 at St Andrew's Anglican to William Todd Jr., and died some time before 1868.  Isabella’s brother was William James Todd, my Great Grandfather, she was my Great Aunt.

She wrote  “I went with my father from BC to Winnipeg 19 years ago and lived there for one winter.  I then came to White Fish Lake (47 km. from Lac la Biche) where I resided for about 5 years.  I have been living in Victoria (Mission Settlement in Pakan, Alberta) since. “

She was first married in 1867 at White Fish Lake age 15 to William Sinclair, who was born at White Fish Lake, AB in 1850. She was widowed in 1875 when William Sinclair, age 25 years died at Victoria Mission, AB.  No children.

1881 Census – she was living in Pakan / Victoria Mission Settlement, Alberta with 2nd husband George Spence, born July 13, 1846 in SK, and also with his mother Sarah Favel Spence, widow  (who was born Apr. 13, 1811 or 1815 in Red River, her father was Thomas Favel, Half-Breed, her mother Sarah, Cree, she married Magnus Spence 1836 in Red River, Manitoba).
 
1891 Census  - was living in Lac La Biche, AB with husband George Spence, farmer, Methodist, and their son John Spence, born March 25, 1889 in AB, and George’s mother Sarah Favel Spence, a widow who died in Lac La Biche 1891.

1901 Census – Isabella Spence Todd was living in Pakan, Victoria Settlement, AB with husband George Spence and their son John Spence born March 25, 1889. 1905 March 24th  - George Spence died in Pakan, AB.

1906 Census - she was a widow, age 55, living in Andrew, AB.
