1851 Census – family address was 157 Ayers Quay, Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland. All children attending school.

1861 Census – the father, William had died and the mother, Dorothy was a Widow, working as Innkeeper at Shoulder of Mutton Public House, Bishop Wearmouth. Oldest son George 20, Waiter, Catherine 18, Housemaid, Sarah 16, Cook, John 14, Apprentice Bottlemaker, and Elizabeth 11, a Scholar.

 

GENERATION 6

 

George SHARP, born 1840, Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland, married 1870, died September 8, 1880 in a coal explosion along with 164 other coal miners in Seaham Colliery. He was 39, and his occupation was Stoneman, residence 9 Model Street, Seaham, Durham.

1881 Census reports Margaret as Widow, age 40, residence was 4 Church Street, Seaham Township, Easington, Durham.

 

1891 Census reports Margaret remarried Thomas SHEVELL born 1839 in Jersey, Channel Island. They married in Oct. 1888. They were living in Dawdon, Durham. No records in census of Thomas after this one.

 

1901 Census reports Margaret living with her daughter Lydia who married Edward S. WIFFEN born 1874, they married in 1898, all living in the ttown of Chester Le Street, Durham 8 miles west of Sunderland on the River Wear.

 

1911 Census reports Margaret age 70, widowed a second time, and living with her son Ben and his wife Isabella SHARPE and their 4 children at Fourth Cross Rows, Haswell Terrace, Durham., Channel Islands, in Oct. 1888, records show they lived in Dawdon, Durham

 

GENERATION 7

 

Benjamin SHARPE, born 1877 in Hetton-Le-Hole, Haswell, Durham, died 1956 Vancouver, BC. He married Isabella WALLACE in 1898 in Easington, Durham.

 

+ Isabella S. WALLACE, born 1876 or 1877 in Seaham Harbour, Durham.

Her parents were George WALLACE born in Crawleyside, Stanhope, Durham in 1845, Mariner and Factory Operative. Her mother was Mary SIMPSON, born 1847 in Camden, Worchestershire. and a grandmother Mary Ann SIMPSON born 1815. The 1871 Census lists them as married with their first two children George and Mary Margaret WALLACE. Their residence was on Francis St. , Seaham Harbour, Durham.

 

In the 1901 Census the WALLACE family residence was Adolphus St., Seaham Harbour, Durham.

 

In the 1891 Census their daughter Isabella WALLACE, 15, was living with her widowed grandmother Mary A. SIMPSON, born 1815. Isabella WALLACE was working as a Warehouse Bottle Worker along with her brother Joseph, 16, as a Moulder Labourer. Their residence was Pilot Terrace, Seaham Harbour, Durham.

1882 School Record for Ben SHARPE shows he was attending Bishopwearmouth Church of England Infant School. The family address was 20 Hope St., Sunderland.

 

1901 Census records show Ben SHARPE and Isabella's SHARPE address at 96 Green St., Town of Seaham Harbour, Division S.E. Durham, Civil Parish: Dawdon.

1911 Census records show Ben Sharpe's occupation as a Coalminer Hewer, married living with his 4 children and his mother Margaret Shevell Sharpe. Their address was Fourth Cross Rows, Haswell Terrace, Durham.

 

1922 Transatlantic Ship Records show the family emigrated to Canada on-board the S.S. Marloch on Dec. 23, 1922 from Sunderland, NE England, arriving on Jan. 1923 in St. John, New Brunswick. Their final destination was Rosedale, Alberta, a major coal mining town (near Drumheller) to join their son George Sharpe who had left before them for work in Rosedale, AB. Their religion is noted on their record as Protestant. Benjamin SHARPE died in Dec. 30, 1956, and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, BC. The Pallbearers were George Sharpe, Jack Sharpe, Chris Sharpe, Ben Sharpe, Eric Wallbank and Alfred Simpson.

 

GENERATION 8

 

Florence May SHARPE, was born October 6, 1909 at Fourth Cross Row, The (Haswell) Plough, Haswell Road, Sub-district Dawdon, County Durham, District of Easington in N.E. England. She was the only daughter of Benjamin SHARPE and Isabella WALLACE. She died Jan. 2011 age 101. Florence May's oldest daughter was Myrtle Judy born on March 26, 1929 and the father was:

 

+ John Jack MARTIN born on May 13, 1897, Ontario (son of Joseph Alexander MARTIN, born Nov. 1854 in Ontario, married Nov. 3, 1880 in Perth, Ontario, died in Stettler, AB in 1930, buried in is buried in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Castor, Alberta, Plot E,020. Jack's mother was Mary Ann born Jan. 1861 in Ontario, died in Stettler in 1940 and is buried in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Castor, Alberta, Plot E,019). Jack MARTIN died in 1967 in Vancouver, Washington, USA. He was married to Thelma Young.
